Don't Touch Me

Clopin: "Don't...touch me..."

LaRoq: "I'm not touching you..."

-----------------------------------------------------------

I try not to upload any of my screen-cap manips here on DA. I only make them when I'm bored and don't want to waste pencils. But every so often, I construct one that's good enough to post.

HOW I MADE IT:

LaRoq is, of course, rendered from a screencap of Chel (The Road to El Dorado) and I edited out the original background. But I really had to edit the hell out of her and her clothes to make her look like LaRoq. I drew her hat myself on MS Paint, where I also edited her outfit, hair and face. I recolored her on GIMP and then took her back to Paint to smooth it out some more. Once I transformed Chel into LaRoq, I opened up a new file and edited a screencap of Clopin. He was much easier since I didn't have to change his clothes or draw anything extra on him. I edited out his background and the torches he was holding, went over his outline a bit on MS Paint, then took him to GIMP and made his colors a little brighter (in that part of the movie, he happens to be standing in the shadows so his colors were very dull; I had to bring them out to match up with LaRoq's garish outfit). Once I made him look a little brighter, I put both of them together using MS Paint.

I'd like to state here that I really liked the expressions both characters had; the only problem was, they were looking straight ahead, so I altered their eyes a bit to make it look like they are staring at each other. I love this effect because Clopin's expression went from bored (original) to annoyed and repelled (after editing), which fits his current feeling about LaRoq perfectly.

Anyways, now I had these two good looking edits together in a white background. So I searched for a decent Hunchback of Notre Dame background screencap and found a good one from the first movie; the setting was inside the Court of Miracles; perfect since this is often where Clopin and LaRoq bump heads. So I put the characters on the new background. Now that I had a light source (so much easier to know exactly where it is rather then guess), I added shading and highlights to the characters themselves (along with many other minor details; i.e., feather detail, folds in their clothes, jewelry accents, etc...) on MS Paint. Then, I took it all to GIMP one last time for some blending and touch-ups.

I'm pretty proud of how it came out, whether it's a manipulation or not. I just really like the expressions and body language; how Clopin actually looks like he's trying to physically pull away from LaRoq as much as possible, while she teasingly lingers just out of reach and mocks him :XD: I was fortunate enough to find 2 good screencaps (plus the background) that meshed well together.

Hope you all enjoy seeing it as much as I enjoyed making it!
