I've always wanted to partake in this challenge, but avoided it as I didn't have the confidence in my skills as an artist to draw in so many different styles. I finally got up the courage to try, and I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. Of course, I don't have Photoshop to make my art look good, but I did my best with what I have---namely GIMP and MS Paint.
The model: the one and only CYCLONE.
My Own Style: Truth is, I don't really have a set style. Everytime I draw my characters, they end up looking different than the last time. My prefered style borders on realism, but with a dash of stylization around the eyes.
Realism: I find realism to be incredibly dull. Real horses only have so many expressions. I also find realism to be tedious (like...if I want to see a real horse, i'd just look at photographs). I do have a great respect for realistic artists, I just don't like to draw realism myself.
Chibi: A fat pony with ginormous eyes. Not much to say about that XD
MLP: I considered the old-school style momentarily, but much like with realism, that leaves a very small gap for expression. I think the FiM style offers a little more in that area. Cyclone, however, is not amused with being an MLP!
TLU: I've always loved the movie The Last Unicorn. Although the style doesn't quite fit Cy's personality!
Pegasus: Watched the movie maybe twice when I was 11 years old. Hopefully I did the derpy thing some justice since I hardly remember what it looks like. Refs helped a bit.
Khan: Again, only saw the movie Mulan maybe twice. Khan is, in my opinion, a fat ugly bugger with a pencil face. But his bored expressions fit Cy pretty well.
Elmer: Cute as a figurine; not so much as a drawing. Has a sort of anthro-vibe going on.
Bullseye: This bugger gave me a lot of trouble and pulled me out of my element. Looks the crappiest of all the drawings. Not a real fan of the Toy Story movies either.
Altivo: Perfect attitude and the right look for Cyclone. Nuff said.
Spirit: Anyone who says "all cartoon horses look like Spirit!" has obviously never seen these memes. This style took me the longest to perfect; almost a full hour just to get the sketch right. I never was able to draw Spirit on-model
Horseland: Never played the game. Had to do a ref-search in order to see what the style looked like. Too girly-girl for Cyclone. He does not approve.
Family Guy: Used the horse from the episode where the Griffins move to Texas as a ref. He, too, is not amused.
Phillipe: Fat, dull, scaredy-cat of a horse. Cyclone looks bored being this guy.
ADGTH Racehorse: Perfect attitude even though I ref'd the pink la-dee-da female horse.
Cave Art: I'm...actually kind of proud of that one....
Frou-Frou: All I can hear is Cyclone crying "WTF have you done to me????"
The other 3 styles I chose were "Home on the Range" style (not Buck--the horse that Patrick Warburton plays), "Major" from Cinderella (goofy-lookin' fellow), and ON-X from Rainbow Brite (kick-ass robot horse
I like Cyclone as this guy!).
The "My Own Style" and "Realistic" drawings were done by hand with colored pencils and sharpie. The others were drawn by hand and colored on GIMP and MS Paint.
