Walking Man's Road by MWRoach Walking Man's Road by MWRoach
Paper size: 18’’ x 12’’
Tools: Sharpie markers for the base coloring and Unicorn/Prismacolor and Crayola colored pencils for mountain shading, grass, clouds and moon.
Time Taken: 7 days working about 4 hours a day :faint:

ABSOLUTELY NO DIGITAL GRAPHICS WENT INTO THE MAKING OF THIS FANART (in your face, Photoshop! I did all those f*cking stars individually by hand! BOOYA! :headbang:)

Like most people my age, who, on a whim, purchased "The Last Unicorn" on DVD at Wal-Mart and watched it, I felt a sudden urge to do a fanart of my absolute favorite childhood movie.

This pic was inspired by the song “Man’s Road”, which is played a couple of times throughout the movie. I tried very hard to make the unicorn look at least somewhat similar to the one in the movie (she's so beautiful), as well as the BG.

Yes, I did an actual background :wow: My mom and I were discussing it last week, and we decided that my work REALLY needs backgrounds, so I had to give it a try. But, I had no idea The Last Unicorn would inspire it :XD: It started out as just a sketch of a common country scene…then I thought it’d be cool if the unicorn could be running by. Then I colored a little bit…then a little bit more…now, 7 days later, my hard, intricate, back-breaking work is complete.

I am extremely proud of this piece. :boogie:

Enjoy...and if you've never seen this movie...WATCH IT! It truley is an amzing movie with such enchanting characters. I'm sure the novel is great too....I never read it, but I hear it's really good :D

I need to rest now...my fingers are killing me :phew: I'm so happy this is done.

Oh...if I colored outside the lines, it's because I had the hiccups at the time :blush: ^^;

BTW, the original piece can be purchased (it ain't gonna be $10.00, though, I'll tell ya that much!) Note me if you're interested.

This is quite good! I neglect backgrounds a little myself, I'm glad you put in the extra effort! The one thing that strikes me as not so good is the deep shadow under the unicorn's eye. It makes her look sleep deprived. I also would prefer more detail in the grape tree, but that may be simply stylistic choice.

Thank you! Yeah, BGs are pretty daunting sometimes!

I made her look sleep deprived because of the lyric, "I'm hungry; weary. But I cannot lay thee down" from the song "Walking Man's Road", which is what inspired this pic :D

I didn't worry about giving the BG too much detail. The BGs in the movie aren't too terribly detailed plus I wanted the main focus to be the unicorn :heart:
